2 Ngày & 1 Đêm (2 Days & 1 Night) (Hangul: 1박 2일; also known as 1 Night 2 Days; abbreviated as 1N2D) is a popular South Korean reality-variety show that airs on KBS2. The show first premiered on August 5, 2007, and is part of the Happy Sunday lineup, along with The Return of Superman. It airs every week at 4:50pm KST. The episodes are also uploaded with English subtitles on the official KBS YouTube channel. The current main cast members are Kim Jong-min, Yeon Jung-hoon, Moon Se-yoon, Kim Seon-Ho, DinDin, and Ravi (VIXX). The show's slogan is "Real Wild Road Variety." The main concept of the show is to introduce popular destinations in Korea that people can visit. The filming for each new trip is usually completed two weeks before it airs on KBS2.
2 Days & 1 Night has won numerous popularity awards and maintains high viewership ratings. Along with The Return of Superman, the third season of the show helped revive and maintain the ratings of the KBS2 Happy Sunday project, surpassing other TV channels from the first episode.
Despite having several member changes in each season, 1 Night 2 Days has kept its original format. The members go on various trips around Korea, including many offshore islands. During the trips, the members also have to complete certain missions at specific times or earn points throughout the day to receive rewards (such as famous local foods) and avoid penalties (such as getting splashed with water). There may be guest appearances, not only by the production team but also by the members themselves if they fit the episode's content. Season 1 aired its final episode on February 26, 2012.
Season 2 premiered on March 4, 2012, with the return of original members Lee Soo-geun, Kim Jong-min, and Uhm Tae-woong, and the addition of new members Kim Seung-woo, Cha Tae-hyun, Sung Si-kyung, and Joo Won. Kim Seung-woo left the show in March 2013 to focus on his acting career and was replaced by actor Yoo Hae-jin.
On November 24, 2013, Season 2 officially ended with the departure of its members. Similar to the show's opening tradition, the members gathered to talk about the episode, providing a fitting farewell to the viewers.
Season 3 premiered on December 1, 2013, with the return of members Cha Tae-hyun and Kim Jong-min, along with new members Kim Joon-ho, Kim Joo-hyuk, Jung Joon-young, and Defconn. On November 22, 2015, Kim Joo-hyuk left the cast on their 2-year anniversary, making his final appearance on November 20 and 21. Yoon Shi-yoon was later reported to be in negotiations to join the show and officially became a new member in April 2016. On September 29, 2016, Jung Joon-young left the show due to a scandal (involving allegations of "sexual assault" made by his ex-girlfriend, but he was later acquitted). On January 7, 2017, the producers confirmed that Joon-young would return to the show, having filmed an episode the day before (which aired on January 15).
In 2018, the show received an award from the President of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea for its efforts in promoting tourism since 2007.
On March 12, 2019, Jung Joon-Young was permanently removed from the production team due to his involvement in the Burning Sun scandal, hidden camera sex videos, and the distribution of illegal videos. As a result, KBS announced on March 15, 2019, that they would temporarily suspend the production and broadcast of 2 Days & 1 Night until further notice. The chatroom scandal also affected cast members Cha Tae-hyun and Kim Jun-ho, who were accused of gambling on a large scale, leading both of them to step down from all their television programs, including 2 Days & 1 Night, where they appeared alongside Jung, with immediate effect. This marked an abrupt end to Season 3, unlike the previous two seasons that had traditional farewell episodes. It also marked the departure of Defconn and Yoon Shi-yoon from the show.
On November 5, 2019, Season 4 of the show was confirmed, with the return of Kim Jong-min and new members Yeon Jung-hoon, Moon Se-yoon, Kim Seon-ho, DinDin, and Ravi (VIXX). The members filmed their first episode on November 12, 2019, and the first episode aired on December 8, 2019.
