The MAMA Awards, originally known as the MKMF Awards, began in 1999. It was later renamed in 2004, 2006, and finally in 2009, marking a new beginning as a prestigious music award in Asia.
In 2009, the MKMF Awards became known as the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), an Asian music award ceremony.
Since 2010, MAMA has been held in various locations, starting with Macau and followed by Singapore in 2011. From 2012 to 2016, MAMA was successfully hosted in Hong Kong, becoming the most famous music event in Asia. Until now, MAMA has grown to become a global music event that connects artists and fans worldwide.
MAMA is not only broadcasted live in four continents: Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania, but it is also streamed on various platforms such as online and mobile devices. MAMA has expanded its reach beyond national boundaries and has become a global music event.
With its breakthrough transformation, MAMA 2017 decided to be held in three different countries: Vietnam (25/11), Japan (29/11), and Hong Kong (1/12).
During the MAMA 2017 week, we will bring outstanding performances that gather diverse music cultures from all over Asia. In order to contribute to the success of the award ceremony, in addition to the annual awards, MAMA this year also added some new categories to honor talented experts who have dedicated themselves to the Asian music industry.
MAMA is not just an award ceremony; it is also a platform for new, unique, and spectacular performances every year. With the theme "Convergence," MAMA 2017 promises to bring the most prestigious stage with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems.
