MBC Music Festival 2018 VietSub is an annual music program in South Korea, broadcasted by the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) at the end of each year. The event was first organized in 1966 as a singing competition, but MBC stopped giving awards in 2005. The inaugural event in 1966 was called MBC Ten Singers Match (Hangul: MBC 10 대 가수 청백전). It was a competition among ten singers, with the winner being crowned the "King of Ten Singers." The event was broadcasted live on MBC from the Seoul Citizens' Hall. Television broadcasts of the event began in 1970.
In 1972, the Seoul Citizens' Hall caught fire at the end of that year's Ten Singers Match. Approximately 1,500 people were still inside the venue when the fire broke out. Sadly, 53 people lost their lives in the fire, and some of the participating singers were injured.
In 2005, MBC stopped giving awards at this event after facing a boycott by several artists in 2004. The event was then renamed MBC Gayo Daejejeon in 2005.
